Course overview
Work with communication in the broadest sense of the word
The Multimedia Designer program is a 2-year full time higher study programme (120 ECTS), offered as a joint venture between SDE College and Tietgen Business College, which enables you to work with both the analytical and practical sides of multimedia production.
A multimedia designer is an academic craftsman. During the programme you work with all the relevant aspects concerning multimedia productions - from strategy and market analysis through A/V productions and design of user interfaces to the programming of the end result that is published on the Internet or CD-rom.
The Multimedia Designer program is very different from a design education. To complete your studies it is necessary to spread your interest in computer-mediated communication over 4 core areas:
- Communication
- Graphic Design & Concept Development
- Programming
- Business
Studying Multimedia Design in Odense, you will become part of a new and exciting education environment, which is in constant development. You have a large influence on how your education is shaped and how your college environment will be.
The programme is taught in English and takes place in an international study environment with students from a large number of countries.
The teaching is based on lecturing and discussions between students and teachers. During some of the classes, you participate in group work where you work together with fellow students solving difficult tasks.
Career opportunities
Few people doubt the significance of communication today. But perhaps only a few are aware of what an extensive area communication represents.
Multimedia designers are trained primarily to be responsible for jobs needing digital communication. These could be in media or communications companies as well as advertising bureaus, Internet and multimedia companies, newspapers and radio/TV. Moreover the multimedia designer could create digital communications solutions for production companies and public services where marketing, information and development can be aided by multimedia.
As a Multimedia Designer, you will have the opportunity to work with communication in the broadest sense of the word. For that reason, the education contains several different aspects.
Naturally you will learn to master technology and its practical application, which is necessary for multimedia production. But you will also learn a great deal about how to convey messages in the best way; about concept development and marketing; about choosing the appropriate media; about design and aesthetics. Societal and company organizational aspects are also part of the program.
Your training will allow you to enter managerial areas where you will have the opportunity to work with many different types of people - on all levels of the company organization. This is one of the reasons why a great deal of the program is project-based.
You learn how to plan a strategy, work out a business plan, communicate your ideas to different target groups, organise and prepare a user interface for a particular customer group and program for the web and CD-rom. At the same time, you will be introduced to video production, audio and streaming.
When you have completed the program, you will have an understanding of both the parts and also the whole picture in the production of new multimedia production. You have, yourself, produced the parts in the group projects, and the whole can be seen in the results, which you and your group have achieved.
