Biology covers a large spectrum of subjects from molecules to ecosystems and from early life forms on Earth to climate changes on land and in the sea. As a biologist from University of Southern Denmark, you get a broad education which can be used in many different contexts in almost any work place; in the private business sector, research, teaching and public administration. In the Biology programme, you work with current issues every day, which will often be close to home, daily life and the nature around you.
The Institute of Biology at University of Southern Denmark focusses its research in experimental biology within certain areas of the subject:
Ecotoxicology and environmental stress
Sound communication and behaviour
Aquatic ecology
In these areas, the research is cutting edge and as a student, you get to be where that research is developed. However, teaching in the biological courses is broad and includes all the basic biological disciplines.
Career opportunities
As a biologist, one of the career paths you can choose is to work in administration in environmental-technical departments and consulting companies. In subjects like environmental consulting, environmental processing, energy guidance or proceedings relating to land contamination, job opportunities are great. You can also become part of the development happening in relation to the environmental considerations which are necessary in order to provide a sustainable development of our future environment. To these development projects, biologists are crucial.
