About Jönköping University
Jönköping University offers qualitative education and is one of the largest Universities in Sweden. The university has 12,000 students, out of which 1,300 are international students from approximately 60 countries, 200 doctoral students, 800 faculty and staff members.
Jönköping offers 15 Master’s programmes taught in English and 3 Bachelor’s programmes taught in English.

Jönköping International Business School
Jönköping International Business School (JIBS)- is the most international business school in Sweden. It has the largest study abroad program of any Swedish business school. Approximately 80 percent of all students study abroad for at least one semester at one of its 350 partner universities across 65 countries. Many students study abroad for two or even three semesters. In addition, JIBS has more courses in English than any other business school in Sweden.
The School of Engineering is one of four schools organized under the umbrella of Jönköping University. About 2,500 students are registered at the School of Engineering.
The School of Engineering focuses on preparing students for achievement in business and developing specific working methods aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises. All programs have well equipped classes according to the latest standards. The programs also provide knowledge from topic areas other than technology such as leadership, communication, business and ecology. Internationalization and collaboration with industry are also driving principles at the school.
The School of Engineering is also a member of the prestigious collaboration between leading engineering schools worldwide – the CDIO Initiative™ (Conceive – Design – Implement – Operate.)
Sweden
Measured by its size, Sweden is not a small country; it’s as big as California or France. But the population is only 9 million. Jönköping
When drawing a square with the capitals of Denmark, Norway and Sweden in three corners and the Baltic States in the fourth. This square will cover the most densely populated areas of Scandinavia, and in the center you’ll find Jönköping. Once here, you will experience a peaceful and safe study environment. But you will also find a vibrant nightlife and cafés, pubs and restaurants on nearly every street corner. Getting around by bike, bus or even foot is easy and quick, but the city center is always growing, expanding and changing. Within walking distance of campus, you will find libraries, theaters, cinemas, sports centers, parks, museums, gyms, hotels, restaurants, bars, cafés, shopping strips and a three-kilometer long beach.
In a municipality of 129, 000 people and a city center of about 60,000, the fact that Jönköping University in total has 12,000 registered students does not go unnoticed. The students have had a big part in shaping Jönköping when it comes to cultural events, entertainment and the international atmosphere, making it a real student city.

Tuition-fees
You are NOT required to pay application and tuition fees if You are a family member of a citizen of an EU or EEA country, or Switzerland, who has temporary or permanent right of residence in Sweden.
Cost of Living
Though most students live on a tight budget, there are ways of making your money go further. You can use your student card for discounts and on-campus restaurants on a good value. You can also cook your own food; most student accommodations have some form of kitchen facility open to residents.
Costs per month
Depending on costs for housing, food and leisure a typical minimum student budget for one month in Jönköping could be 7 000 SEK:
- Accommodation: 2 000-3 500 SEK
- Food: 2 000 SEK
- Local travel: 500 SEK(season card with student discount)
- Telephone/internet: 300 SEK
- Clothing, hobby/leisure: 700 SEK
- Course literature, hygiene, other: 1500 SEK
In most restaurants and bars, a beer will cost you SEK 40-50 SEK, a glass of wine perhaps a little more. Dinner starts at around 199-150 SEK drinks not included. Eating out at lunchtime is cheaper; expect to pay somewhere around 55-90 SEK for a meal including a soft drink, salad and tea/coffee. An average monthly budget is set out below to give you some idea
Scholarships for International Students
The Swedish Institute administers over 500 scholarships each year for students and researchers coming to Sweden to pursue their objectives at a Swedish university. The Swedish Institute is a government agency. Accommodation
Jönköping University is located in the city center. The accommodation alternatives that are offered to international students are all located within 25 minutes by public transport from the University. Under certain circumstances students will be offered other accommodation than those listed in the accommodation and arrival registration, due to housing shortages in Jönköping.
The university guarantees accommodation to international students who have been accepted.
Rent can range approximately from 2100 to 3000 SEK per month depending on location, size, furniture, etc. The rent usually includes electricity, heating, and water.
In order to have accommodation guaranteed, all international students are required as well to register their arrival information even if they do not arrive during the arrival dates and/or do not require the pick-up service.

The arrival information must be registered on-line at the same site where students apply for accommodation.
Pick-up service
Jönköping International Business School and School of Engineering offer pick-up service for students arriving to Jönköping during the “arrival dates”. In order to organize the pick up service students should register their arrival information at the site of Jönköping University or go directly to the site where students apply for accommodation.
Students from Entré (International student association) will meet students arriving during the arrival dates at the Jönköping airport, bus and rail station and take them to their accommodation. The pick-up service is NOT offered for students arriving outside the arrival dates.
Working
If you are enrolled at a Swedish university or university college you can work in Sweden without a work permit. You do, however, need a residence permit. Nordic, EU and EEA students need to get a residence permit if they are staying in Sweden for longer than three months. All other nationalities need to get a residence permit before they arrive in Sweden. For more information visit the website of Swedish Migration Board.
Working as a student in Sweden is normal and six out of ten university students work part-time. The expected salary you can have is from 110 SEK/hour and higher depending on the job you are doing.
However it is recommended to take some Swedish classes offered by university to make the job finding easier. The level of English speakers in Sweden is quite high though. Also, it could be a good idea to start searching for work already in August as this is the time when students usually go home for vacation and quit their jobs.
For job possibilities and information about the job market you should contact “Knutpunkten” at Jönköping university. It is a meeting place for professional life and Jönköping University. They aim to strengthen the opportunities of students to successfully find appropriate employment upon graduation providing students with the help necessary.
As well there is an internship option as the International business school and the Engineering school has a joint project with LTC/Enterprise Europe Network called “EuropaStudent”. The project aims to find internships for International/European students in the region of Jönköping, and for European students in other EU/EES countries.
