The focus of this foundation degree is on enhancing your skills and
creativity to gain the high levels of craftsmanship required to design
and make costumes for Caribbean-style carnivals.
During the course you will:
- Gain the opportunity to get involved with live carnival
- Enjoy access to teaching staff with extensive experience in
- Benefit from professional-quality facilities at the UK Centre for
Areas of study you may cover on this course include:
- Developing and exploring creative approaches to the designing and
making of carnival costumes
- Researching design contexts (including multicultural and
international aspects that will support personal approaches to
designing and making)
- Professional practice through work-based learning and experience
of mas camps (Caribbean-style carnivals and music)
CAREER MANAGEMENT SKILLS
Careers development is integrated into the course and the course
seeks to provide you with an awareness of the real world context of
the creative industries in general and carnival arts in particular.
You will be helped to develop a strategy for obtaining appropriate
employment at the end of your course.
Professional practice will be emphasised as part of all learning
units but the work related and work based learning units especially
will help you to become more focused on managing your career. You will
be helped with the preparation of a professional portfolio as well as
a CV (Curriculum Vitae) and material so that you can market yourself.
CAREER/FURTHER STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
Specifically work as a designer / maker in the carnival arts sector.
