The university focuses on the employabiblity of their graduates.

School of Management

The School of Management in Steyr provides students with a modern, practice oriented university degree for a later career in the field of leadership and international management. All degree programmes are based on four fundamental principles: students acquire general management know-how, specialist competence (according to specialist focus of the degree course), social skills and the competence to transfer theory into practice.

The School of Management at the Campus in Steyr is specifically internationally focused. Students are provided with the very latest internationally recognised input while intercultural management and English as the language of instruction are the order of the day. While English is a compulsory language, the school also offers French, Russian, Spanish, and Czech. A semester abroad at one of the 100+ partner universities is an option which is open to any student coming to Steyr.

Steyr Campus organises a varied programme of events ranging from the “Boatmania” boat race, staff versus students soccer matches and the Beer Race run by staff and final year students in the summer semester to more formal events such as guest lectures and Steyr Campus Ball in the winter semester to which formal evening attire must be worn.

School of Engineering and Environmental Sciences

Founded in 1994, the Wels Campus of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria is home to the Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Sciences. With its focus on Engineering, Environmental Sciences and Business Studies, it offers students a practical and well-rounded education as well as the opportunity to work hand-in-hand alongside major industries in the region.

In 2005 it celebrated the opening of a new main building, making it one of the most modern and best-equipped universities in Austria. The Federal State of Upper Austria and the city of Wels have invested around €50 mil. to provide its prestigious faculty with state-of-the-art teaching facilities and laboratories. All of the more than 15 programmes are designed to provide graduates with a comprehensive university education that enables them to succeed on the labour market. The contents of the programmes directly reflect the increasing demand of industry for engineers with cutting-edge and practice-orientated knowledge.

Located in the very heart of Upper Austria between Munich and Vienna, Prague and Salzburg, Wels today is a busy centre for trade and industry. With a population of 55,000 and located 25 kilometres west of Linz (the capital of Upper Austria, population ca. 200,000), Wels is a dynamic business location, owing to the large number of high-tech industries (mainly SMEs), many of which operate worldwide. The university campus, which is situated in the centre of Wels, spreads its vibrant, lively atmosphere about the city, which offers a high quality of living, rich cultural attractions and attractive dining possibilities to its residents, students and guests.

School of Informatics, Communications and Media

The campus is located approximately 20 km north-east of the regional capital Linz and is part of the Softwarepark Hagenberg complex, which also hosts several of the University’s research departments and a number of commercial software companies. With its unique combination of pedagogic excellence and cutting-edge research and business best practice, Hagenberg has established a worldwide reputation as a dynamic powerhouse of computing and software development and is also renowned as “Austria`s Silicon Valley” and is widely praised for its teaching and research. Hagenberg offers students the perfect head start for a career in information and media technology.

The academic programmes in Hagenberg are divided into three main fields: Informatics, Communications and Media. Each programme has a clearly defined and industry-oriented focus. These focuses include such areas as software development, hardware and software interfaces, applications in the field of mobile devices and security-related aspects of modern communication, in addition to the technical, organizational, and design-related issues in the field of media. Courses in business administration and project management complement the curriculum of each programme, resulting in graduates who are highly qualified for leading positions within the IT and media industry.

The structure of the curriculum allows students from all degree programmes to see the real-world relevance of the theoretical knowledge acquired in lectures and apply these principles in projects with industry partners. Nearly half of our students complete the mandatory internship-semester in the bachelor programmes in renowned companies all over the world (Siemens Medical Solutions, Concord, USA or Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, USA are only some of them).

Austria

Austria is a beautiful country with a great cultural heritage, located in the heart of Europe. It is the home of Mozart, Klimt, Freud, and “The Sound of Music”. Austria’s snow-capped mountains, crystal clear lakes and rivers and historic cities like Vienna and Salzburg attract tourists from all over the world. The economy is very much export orientated and the standard of living is high. The national language is German, but most people speak some English.

Upper Austria

Upper Austria is one of the 9 regional states in Austria, located in the northern part of the country, between Munich and Vienna, Prague and Salzburg. The region offers a highly-developed cultural life and urban infrastructure as well as a long history and breathtaking natural scenery. Characterized by its diversity, Upper Austria contains the best which Austria has to offer: crystal-clear lakes, the rugged mountains of the Alps, thermal springs and untouched forests.

Historical highlights such as the oldest salt mine in the world in the UNESCO world heritage region of Hallstatt stand alongside ultra-modern attractions such as the Ars Electronica Center, the world-renowned museum of the future in Linz. The Lentos Museum of Modern Art, also located on the Danube, is another key destination for visitors to Linz, cultural capital of Europe in 2009. The imperial spa resort of Bad Ischl, once the summertime retreat of the Habsburg emperors and the picture-perfect backdrop of Gmunden on the Traunsee lake with its lakeside castle of Orth are world-famous treasures of the Salzkammergut region. With the romantic city of Steyr, which is over a thousand years old, and the city of Wels, which has Celtic origins and today is an internationally-known location for trade fairs, the region is a stage for modern culture and exciting events.

Upper Austria also has a great variety of food and drink to offer: the speciality dishes and independently brewed beer make Upper Austria truly a tasty place to live and study!

Working

In the Member Countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) the free movement of workers is a fundamental right which permits nationals of one EEA country to work in another EEA country on the same conditions as that Austria’s own citizens.

Bulgarian and Romanian citizens wishing to work in Austria still need a work permit, which the employer must apply for. The competent local Labour Market Service will confirm freedom of movement once the worker has been legally employed for one year. Family members resident in Austria will only be granted freedom of movement after 18 months. Their freedom of movement will expire once they leave Austria not just temporarily.
