Course overview

This speciality will qualify you to function as a pattern design assistant in a development department within the fashion industry where you will have a close cooperation with the designer. You will often have the responsibility for the fitting of the product and for the communication of this to international business partners.
Throughout the semesters you will acquire a more profound knowledge of construction, grading, fitting and materials making you able to work in an experimental and innovative manner with the construction process.
The course programme focuses on the fitting of the product in relation to design and production methods. You will learn to work out complex construction and grading solutions where you play an important role in finding a balance between the aesthetic and the functional and qualitative. The CAD programme AccuMark from Gerber Technology will be your daily tool for construction and grading and you will become an experienced user of the programme.
Throughout the semesters you will strengthen your analytical talents making you able to evaluate, select and develop the construction and grading methods that consider the design as well as the fitting.

Career opportunities

The Pattern Designer may be responsible for construction, grading, and fit in a company developing clothing products for the fashion and lifestyle industry.

These companies could be, e.g.:
• Design companies within clothing
• Commercial companies, as product support in a purchasing department
