Adam Smith College is the third largest college in Scotland and an international leader in the development of high quality further and higher education practices. Adam Smith College was created from the merger of Glenrothes College and Fife College on 1 August 2005. By coming together they created the third largest college in Scotland and the largest in central Scotland with approximately 20000 students, more than 700 staff and offering more than 1000 different educational programmes covering a wide variety of vocational areas. The College has a strong presence throughout Fife with four main campuses, in Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes, as well as 16 local learning centres. The College offers various courses in the fields of engineering and science, computing, hair and beauty, business and management, construction, sports and tourism, education and care studies, creative industries and community learning. Accommodation The Halls of normally start from about £50 per week, moving up to around £80 per week for some larger universities. If you opt to not go the halls of residence option, you can always go and find your own accommodation. Expenses in Adam Smith College It is possible to get a Bachelor degree at Adam Smith College after successful completion of HNC and HND. HNC is the first year in Bachelor studies and HND the second year. It is not possible to go directly from high school to HND studies, one has to have completed HNC. As to transportation students should consider about ₤5-₤15 per week for transport in Adam Smith College. The College offers also different scholarships. Whilst you are staying in the UK, you will have a variety of accommodation options available to you. Most halls of residence have a canteen where food is supplied (at a cost) to students. As an international student the food may be unfamiliar, but a good way to immerse yourself in the culture of the UK. Flats/ Houses
If you do move into a flat or house, you will have to sign a tenancy agreement, which is a legal document outlining the terms of the tenancy. Be very careful to make sure you fully understand the terms and issues of the contract, and if you do have any doubts talk to your international student advisor who can assist you further. A flat or house is generally more expensive than any other option, and you may find it hard to find accommodation that is close to your campus. However many students like the freedom to live where they choose, live with whom they like and choose the type of place they want to live in. To assist in your search for alternative accommodation here are three online sites that you can look for accommodation as many students choose to rent a private flat either alone or together with fellow students. International students who are studying on a course lasting longer than six months are normally allowed to work for 20 hours per week during term-time and unlimited hours during vacations. Students may find part-time jobs as administration assistants, receptionists, customer service assistants etc. Students may find job ads in newspapers or at school. Finding job may be difficult but if you really need and want it, you will find one. You should keep in mind to have at least 4 month’s money before arrival as it may take time to find a job. If you don’t then it is advisable to work for some time before you start your studies. Student jobs hourly wage minimum is around £4.83 per hour if you are aged 18-21 years and £5.80 per hour if you are 22 or over.
